Hypochlorous acid is a free chlorine molecule with the chemical structure HOCl. It is the dominant free chlorine species in chlorine solutions that have a slightly acidic to neutral pH. HOCl is a much more powerful oxidant than sodium hypochlorite (or chlorine bleach).
Hypochlorous acid is produced naturally by the white blood cells of all mammals. It is used by white blood cells to kill invading microbial pathogens.
Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a neutrally charged molecule. Bacteria have negatively charged cell walls. Just like magnets, molecules with the same charge will repel each other. For example, the negatively charged molecule of bleach (OCl-) is repelled by bacterial cell walls. This is not the case with HOCl which is neutrally charged. HOCl easily penetrates bacterial cell walls. HOCl either oxidizes the cell walls killing the bacteria or enters through the cell walls and destroys the vital components inside the bacteria.
The Aviair Puresense AVS 191A comes equipped with a special nozzle that sprays micro droplets in a continuous and evenly distributed way. It is possible for the user to apply enough solution on the surfaces without soaking them. On some hard surfaces like metal, you could spray and wipe after seconds. On more complex surfaces or porous material the solution could be left to dry.
The solution produced by the product is a low concentration hypochlorous acid at 100 ppm (80 to 120ppm to be more accurate depending on water quality and amount of salt used). We have several independent lab studies to confirm the effectiveness of the solution against 99.9% of known viruses and bacteria. Generally speaking concentrations above 50 ppm are enough to kill viruses. Covid 19 is a relatively new and until now we did not specifically test against it yet and do not suspect that it would behave any different than other viruses. The solution produced does not harm skin in terms of PH because it’s from mild acidic to mild alkaline like soap.
